I am a UoD student

Hello everybody!

It's about the right time to write some more. Well, it's quite late again and I'm getting up early - tomorrow we're going to Chatsworth House (there will be a lot of pictures later, for now you can have a look at http://www.chatsworth.org/).

Today I've finally enrolled for what I'm going to study. As I mentioned before, there are just two days in school for me. Tuesday morning I'm attending Atlantic World, a subject dealing with American studies and American history. It'll be pretty difficult but I'm pretty sure I'll find out lots of interesting stuff. Tuesday afternoon it's Fiction Post 1900, contemporary British writers, yummy. Thursday morning I'll be writing my heart out 'coz it's the Writing Workshop. At last but not at least, Thursday afternoon I'll be Reading American Literature.

The rest of my days here will be devoted to hard labour and travelling. I've got already loads of plans, so I hope money shortage won't be a problem.

I'm still finding my way through the city. Today we were to Mickleover, which is a suburb of Derby (thanks to Steve, coz we would probably die walking there, it's quite a long journey) and also to Normanton, which is a quarter way south from the city and is absolutely fabulous! It like a multi-faith multicultural part of town where most of the Asian minorities live. Thus, you can find there Chinese, Indian, Pakistan, Kurdish (wherever it might be from) etc. cuisine, shops selling just and only saris, lots of interesting people in all the colours you can think of. That's definitely where I'm coming again!

Well, after all the enthusiasm, that'll be probably all for today. It's almost 1:00 am, as I said, I'm getting up early.

Before Welcome Party

Hello everybody!

I've got sometime left before the BIG party, so I've decided to drop a few lines in here. The Welcome Week is almost over, there is only the enrolment and a trip in front of us. At the party of course

The living here is still alright - I've got three roommates so far, two American girls, Keryn and Alisa, and a Spanish boy Nacho (I excuse for all misspellings made). Cooking is still a bit problem, I haven't had much time yet and I also don't have much food to cook. But it'll be solved once I start attending the classes.

I finally settled my timetable today. I'll have classes only on Tuesday and Thursday! Cool I'll write more about school next time.

The Start of Erasmus Programme

My dear friends,

I finally got to writing the first entry in my Erasmus blog. It's actually quite late and in my hometown it is even later, but I cannot get myself to sleep. I've finally cleared my room, made a little nice home out of here. You can see the pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/marinov.jane/20070911. There will be more, I promise :)

I came here Sunday night (two days ago). The flight was horrific, as usual. It had 45 minutes delay, the turbulences were really unpleasant, probably the worst flight I've ever experienced. However, I freak out every time I'm supposed to fly, so it is not really relevant information.

We (i.e. me and my classmate Kate) got to Derby at about 12:00 am GMT, then we moved in (actually, I was given incorrect room, so I had to re-move the next day), unpacked, went to sleep. The next day was really nice, the weather has been perfect all the time we're here, short shower during night, but otherwise it is sunny and quite warm (the English tend to go out in shorts, t-shirts and sandals). We spent the whole day walking round the city, trying to acclimatise ourselves.

Today was the first day of the Welcome week, we've been shown the university campus, told some basic information about what we're going to experience here, it was quite fun. I'm quite looking forward to the rest of the week. There are loads of things: welcome parties, trip outside the city, plenty of useful information.

Tomorrow we've got a free morning (I'll probably walk around and take some more pictures) and later the first making of friends. Looking forward to that.
